Double Maille A rather interesting variant on the basic 4-in-1 style, Double, or King's maille most likely gets its name because of the fantastic time, effort, and cost that would have been required to make a shirt (hauberk). In essence, king's maille replaces every link in the traditional 4-in-1 style with two. This results in an exceptionally dense and strong material (at merely twice the weight!) Once again, a clear picture is worth much more than paragraphs of my rambling, so here in 17 gauge, 3/8" aluminum, is a sample.
![]() I've heard that ancient shirts of this maille have been found to be made almost completely out of gold! If the rumors are true, it could lend some credence to the regal name of this weave.
